FSCL West Regional Championships Feb 18th, Reg 9:30-10:30, Round 1 at 11 1st Church, 2202 E Busch Blvd, Tpa 33612 What: 4-rds, Swiss-Sys (no elimination), Game-30 5-sec delay. Fully USCF Rated ( The top winners of this tournament are invited to ALL-STARS in April) Who: Any school age child, public, private or homeschool. Individual or team. Sections: K-1, K-3, K-5, K-8 & K-12. Awards: Top 15 each (K-12 top 5), Top 5 teams (K-12 top 2) Times: Reg 9:30-10:30. Round 1 at 11am. Rd 2 at 12:30, Rds 3-4 asap. Cost: Reg by 2/15 $20, after $30. Tampa Bay Chess traveled to Miami Dec 9-11th
to compete in one of the most difficult events that
the USCF hosts - the 9 round National Youth
Championships.
The team, guided by Coach Jeff York, consisted
of Josh Levison, Truman Hoang, Ethan Hinds, Miriam
Hinds, Ethan Sunjic, Aidan Reilly, Kelvin Ng, Dylan
Sunjic, Roshan Jayaraman and Jacob Nair won first
place in the K-6 division.
Ethan Hinds won first in the nation with Aidan Reilly
and Dylan Sunjic tying for 2nd.

 National Chess Day (October 9th) was celebrated at Deer Park Elementary School on Friday morning October 7th from 7:15 am until the bell rang. It was all about strategy, fun, friendship, and the endgame as the Deer Park Rook Rangers played spirited matches in the courtyard. The weather cooperated as teachers, staff, chess coaches, and parents looked on while pawns and bishops were sacrificed. It was all about celebrating the love of the game. The afterschool chess club (The Chessnuts) now boasts a membership of over 60 dedicated players. |
